Abstract: This paper mainly introduces the deep hot dry rock drilling projects in Fenton Hill of the USA and Soultz of France, which provides some reference for the design of the deep hot dry rock drilling project. According to Chinese dry rock drilling foundation and geological reservoir formation conditions, the author established three kinds of hot dry rock drilling projects on the basis of drilling depth, well structure, drilling technology and drilling equipment, and gave the explicit value of the drilling technical indexes. The technical and economic evaluation of each project was acquired through calculation. The result shows that the large diameter drilling project is technically reliable and economically viable for the 5 000 meters hot dry rock drilling project.
